Precast Concrete Hyperbolic Paraboloid Roof Shells - Technical Talk

IStructE Western Counties
School of Chemistry, University of Bristol, Cantock´s Close , Bristol (Click here to view in Googlemaps)

The technical talk will cover Precast Concrete Hyperbolic Paraboloid Roof Shells of 20m span, 2.44m wide, 60mm thick. It will also introduce the 80m span patented Silberkhul/ Northlight steel concrete tied arch which were patented in the UK in 1957, but ceased to be manufactured in 1984.

There are many buildings with roofs of this type in the UK and abroad which are nearing the end of their design life, such that they may require refurbishment or demolition. As there are few people alive with comprehensive knowledge of this form of construction and little, if any archived information.

This presentation will prove invaluable to those appointed to advise about such roofs in the future. Of interest to or relevant to, Structural/Civil Engineers, surveyors, builders, architects, architectural technologists, demolition engineers, their related trainees and universities.
